Academic Services

Tutoring

I provide tutoring services at the middle and high school level, specializing in Executive Functioning skills.  Executive dysfunction is a significant barrier for many kids, but trying to navigate distance learning and entirely new systems can be challenging for all learners. I have 10 years of classroom experience working with students who struggle with executive functioning, and along the way I have developed many strategies, tools, and resources to help students overcome this barrier.

What you can expect from a tutoring session;

  • A “game plan” this includes establishing a schedule and routine for what the “school day” is going to look like, getting organized, physically and virtually.

  • Self Advocacy practices; communicating with teachers and other school personnel.

  • Doing the work! Getting into the coursework and navigating it together.

  • A running document of what was covered during the session as well as any tools or strategies we have used for parents and students to refer back to at home. I like to use google slides for this, as it is collaborative, and easy to add to as we go. It is also yours to keep and refer back to as a resource in the future.

Fees - $40.00 per hour for individual one on one tutoring.

Small Group Academic Instruction

Community - Connection - Support

In response to the challenges associated with distance learning, I am adding small group instruction to my offerings. I will be doing these in person, or virtually.  I currently have a location secured in Tigard, OR, but can expand if the need arises. Many students just need that in person interaction. Small groups allow me to offer the same services as the one on one tutoring but at a lower fee. It also allows for safe interaction and collaboration for students, who may be lacking the motivation to fully engage in academics on their own.

  • Small groups will consist of 4-6 students. I will need at least 4 students in order to run the group, and I will cap each session at 6 students so that each student has the opportunity to receive individual support.

  • All of the same tools and resources used in one on one tutoring will be available in small groups

  • I will create a running document of what was covered in each session, and this will be available for students and parents to access at any time.

Fees -  $15.00 per session, per child.

Qualifications

I have 10 years teaching experience; 8 years teaching secondary English and History, and two years as a high school Special Education teacher. I have taught at a small alternative high school, a private special education school, and a large public high school. I have worked with a wide variety of students, and in varied environments. I have found that students are most successful when they have a positive relationship with an adult, and when they feel seen, heard, and respected.
